COC certificate in Soweto
A Soweto Certificate of Compliance is an inspection of the permanent installation at that stand: the board, the earthing, the socket and light circuits, and the fixed connections such as the stove. It is not a favour and not a document this website can stamp. If a breaker has been bridged with wire so that it cannot trip, a competent electrician will refuse the certificate until that is removed and the fault is repaired. Orlando, Diepkloof, and Protea Glen houses all deserve that standard. The area name does not lower it.
Backyard rooms are part of the installation when they are wired from the house. A lead run through a window is not a circuit. If you are selling, tell the electrician about every structure on the stand that has lights. Leaving it out does not make the certificate true.
Prepaid supply
Have units on the meter so the installation can be tested live. A dead prepaid meter with zero credit is not an inspection. If the meter itself is damaged, that may be the municipality's equipment on their side of the seal. Say what you see. Do not ask for the meter to be bypassed so the test can be faked.
Questions and answers
Can I get a COC without repairs if the house is old?
Only if the installation complies. Age is not the test. Unsafe additions are. Budget for the chance of a fail and a repair quote.
Who do I name as the electrician on the sale?
The registered person who actually inspects and signs. Joburg Electrical is not that person and should not appear as the issuing contractor.
