Fault finding in Sandton
Sandton fault finding splits in two. In a townhouse, one room or the sockets die while the passage lights stay on, and the board is in a cupboard. In an office suite, a floor box or a small DB in a tea area trips and the landlord's riser is still live. Write which of those it is. A person sent for a house will not have access to a Sandton City management office, and the other way around wastes the morning.
If the outage is the whole node and the shops are dark, it is not an in-unit fault. Do not use Instant Match as a City Power fault line. If your unit is the only one dark in the scheme, it is yours, and the brief should say the neighbour's lights are on.
A burning smell in a cupboard board
Cupboard boards in Sandton units have little airflow. A loose breaker smells of hot plastic before it fails. Switch that unit's main off if you can reach it safely, open the cupboard door for air, and do not keep resetting. Tell the electrician the smell is at the board, not at the oven. An oven smell is a different, usually appliance, problem.
Questions and answers
The scheme generator starts but my unit is dead. Why?
Your breaker may be off, or your unit may not be on the generator circuits. Building management knows the common plant. Your request is for the unit board if the rest of the scheme has power.
Can you trace a fault after hours in Sandton?
You can send the request at any time. We do not promise that an electrician is awake or nearby. There is no after-hours tariff on this page because we do not set their fees.
Should I switch the air conditioner off first?
Yes if the trip happens when it starts. Note that in the brief. It points at that circuit rather than the whole board.
